ANT Snubbed for All-Star

Already one of the most motivated players in the NBA, let’s see what Anthony Edwards has on tap now. Fresh off a dominant 10-game run, ANT was snubbed and did not make this month’s All-Star Game, even as a reserve. You can’t tell me he didn’t deserve it. I imagine his teammates will take the snub seriously too.

The Wolves moved to 4-1 in their last five with a come-from-behind 119-114 win at home over defending champion Golden State on Wednesday. D-Lo continued his recent surge with 29 points, ANT had 27 and Naz Reid 24 in place of Rudy Gobert (illness).

If the Wolves can get 25 or more from 2 players not named ANT on a nightly basis, they can beat anyone. The consistency has gotten better. Minnesota hits the weeked 28-26 and in sixth in the West. They’re three back of third but just 2.5 ahead of 13th.

Minnesota welcomes former Minnehaha Academy standout Jalen Suggs and the Orlando Magic to Target Center tonight.

No. 1 vs. No. 3 at Ridder This Weekend

You won’t see a better women’s hockey matchup than tonight and tomorrow afternoon at Ridder Arena, as the No. 3 Gophers host No. 1 Ohio State. The Gophers had a win and a tie in Columbus back in October.

Minnesota has won 12 straight but was mostly untested in those games. This weekend poses the first real challenge since the Gophers lost to Yale in Nevada at Thanksgiving.

Two premiere hockey teams - I’ll even throw the ticket link in for you. See you at Ridder for a series that will go a long ways towards the No. 1 overall seed in next month’s NCAA Tournament. Minnesota actually leads Ohio State by two points for first in the WCHA.

The No. 1 Gopher men don’t play this weekend.

Kaprizov at All-Star Game

The NHL All-Star Game is this weekend (as is the revamped NFL Pro Bowl). Kirill Kaprizov is the Wild’s only representative. The skills competition is tonight and the 3-on-3 tournament is tomorrow, with divisions facing off.

I managed to only go to one NHL All-Star Game - 2012 in Ottawa. Mikko Koivu was the Wild’s representative but suffered an upper body injury in the last game before the break. Nick Johnson (remember him?) was the Wild’s “Young Stars” selection. He did the passing competition on All-Star Saturday, that was it. Tickets were already bought so I went. Drake performed at intermission - he wasn’t known for much more than DeGrassi at that point…

Gopher Hoops

It’s been a rough 2023 for both Gopher hoops teams. The men fell to 1-10 in Big 10 play with a 35-point loss at Rutgers on Wednesday. Things don’t get much easier as Maryland comes to The Barn Saturday at 8.

The women are now 2-9 in conference after a 77-54 loss to No. 4 Indiana on Wednesday. They play at Illinois on Sunday.
