The love-hate relationship between hockey players and referees is well known. But tonight, it’s nothing but love as the Steel celebrate Referee Appreciation Night at Fox Valley Arena. On-ice officials are a cornerstone of hockey, and the Steel hope this unexpected promotion will not only celebrate the referees, but possibly inspire the next generation to pick up a whistle. We go inside the glass with the Steel’s international players including top prospect Timothy Kazda. In the end, despite not being able to secure a live zebra, Referee Appreciation Night lived up to the stripes with an overtime thriller against the reigning Clark Cup champs.
