Minnesota Timberwolves Target Center STADIUM REVIEW.

The Target Center in downtown Minneapolis is the second oldest active NBA stadium. But don’t let the age fool you as this 30+ year old building still has a lot to offer for Timberwolves and Lynx games.

Recent renovations have given the exterior a massive facelift with a clean outer façade and the NBA’s first green roof. Roofs are mostly out of sight and out of mind but this one offers a lot of positive environmental impacts to the surrounding downtown area. Entering the building through the new atrium is a treat as it’s lit up with a giant basketball net chandelier.

The concourse has also gone through major renovations to bring it into the modern age of sports and entertainment. Trimmed with dark bricks and lined with wood finish, the walkways have a very classy and modern appeal. Several areas around the venue showcase the history of the Timberwolves, Lynx, and all the concerts that have taken place over the years. The kid’s zone on the lower concourse is also a fantastic draw for families where you can howl your lungs out in the photo booth. The upper concourse also provides a fantastic view down into the kid’s zone and a giant mural of current Timberwolves players.

Once in the main seating bowl of the arena, the building seems to show it’s age a little as some of the sightlines from the upper levels are a little subpar and many sections of seats are tarped off to consolidate the crowd. Overall, the bowl has an old school symmetrical octagon shape. However, I got extremely lucky while at the game and was randomly chosen for a seat upgrade and went from the nosebleeds to center court only about 10 rows from the floor giving me a great view of the game and some more high-class seating options.

The atmosphere down low was incredible as the Timberwolves put on a great show both on and off the court. Regular promotions and giveaways kept fans engaged but it wasn’t overwhelming like I’ve experienced at other NBA stadiums where the constant gimmicks take away from the game. Adding to my luck in the new seats, I got to howl my lungs out against the section across the court and our whole section won Target gift cards!

Although the seating layout may be a little dated, thanks to the great modern upgrades and wonderful fan experience, the Target Center is truly a fantastic place to take in some basketball on a cold winter’s night.
