Wild Beats Kraken in OT to End Marathon Trip

Kirill Kaprizov set up Mats Zuccarello for the game-winner in overtime as the Wild ended a seven-game road trip with a 3-2 win in Seattle late last night. The Wild went 4-1-2 on the trip and returns home for three games starting with the Islanders tomorrow.

Minnesota led 2-0 after one and could have folded after allowing two goals in the third period to force the extra session. But the Wild had all four shots of overtime.

Ryan Hartman and Brock Faber scored for the Wild, which is tied with Dallas for second in the NHL/conference/division.

Ant Hits 10K Points in Win Over Cavs

Anthony Edwards became the third youngest player in NBA history to reach 10,000 points, and Julius Randle scored 28 points as the Wolves moved into fourth place in the West with a 131-122 win over the Cavs at Target Center last night. The teams meet again in a noon tip-off Saturday in Cleveland.

Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant have scored 10,000 points at an earlier age than ANT.

The Wolves set season-highs in field goal percentage (57%) and 3-point percentage (53%). They hit 20 3’s. 

Minnesota blew the game open with a 43-22 advantage in the third quarter, and then held off a Cavs surge in the fourth.

Gopher Hoops

The Gopher men try to avoid a letdown tonight against USC at the Barn, three nights after upsetting ranked Iowa.Minnesota has won five straight and is 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the Big 10.

The Gopher women blew out Northwestern 79-46 Wednesday behind 20 points from Tori McKinney. They host No. 21 USC on Sunday.

Gopher Hockey

Both Gopher hockey teams return to conference play after the holiday break. The men play at No. 9 Wisconsin, while the third-ranked women play a home-and-home with No. 12 Minnesota State.
