Love having the NBA back on NBC.
ANT’s Status in Question as Wolves Open Season
Pretty shocking news coming out of the Wolves’ injury report last night, as the team listed Anthony Edwards on the injury report ahead of tonight’s season lidlifter in Portland. ANT has back spasms and is listed as questionable. That’s an injury that can of course linger.
Anything less than the conference finals this year would be a disappointment. OKC isn’t going anywhere…Denver is good too but the Wolves are younger and more talented than anyone else in the West. And they’re less dysfunctional than the Nuggets.
The Wolves’ home opener is Sunday against the Pacers.
Wentz to Start Again for Vikings Tomorrow in L.A.
This wasn’t the week to have a “short week”.
Carson Wentz will again start tomorrow night in L.A. against the Chargers. He’s not even 100 percent healthy, but he’s far ahead of J.J. McCarthy health-wise. For a moment, it looked like Max Brosmer could even be an option at QB1.
The Chargers are two-point favorites. I’m surprised it’s not more, although the Vikings tend to hang around in games.
The Vikings hope to get Aaron Jones back in the backfield. Jordan Mason started out guns ablazin’ when Jones got hurt, but he’s leveled off. The Vikings need Jones’ bruising type of downhill running (if he can hold onto the ball) to hopefully stave off the pass rush.
Wild Win in NYC
Danila Yurov is the Wild youngster who’s looked most ready for the NHL (at least among forwards), and he was rewarded with his first career goal Monday in New York, as the Wild beat the Rangers 3-1. Yurov scored against his countryman Igor Shesterkin - they share an agent - and everyone’s favorite Russian Kirill Kaprizov scored an empty net goal with his parents in attendance.
The Wild will try to end the five-game trip (1-2-1 thus far) with a .500 mark when they visit the Devils tonight.
