Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 3.25.26

Baseball Opening Day (Night), and Opening Day at Eagle Valley Golf Course too. Forgot when I made the tee time for 5 p.m. that I’d be walking…carts by the weekend, perhaps.

Meaningful baseball shouldn’t be played in March.

Twins open up Thursday in Baltimore with Joe Ryan on the bump.

Ant still out for the Wolves ahead of tonight’s monumental home game against Houston, but Ayo Dosuhmo concerningly has been added to the injury report, too. The Wolves are fifth, a half game up on Houston but just two behind the Lakers for third.

Brett Larson, who took over for Bob Motzko at St. Cloud State almost a decade ago, takes over for Bob Motzko at the helm of GMH. Interesting to see who replaces Larson; SCSU is not a hot destination right now.

It’s a 6:30 p.m. tip time for GWBB against UCLA in Sacramento for the Sweet 16 on Friday. The Bruins are an overwhelming 19.5-point favorite.

Tiger Woods didn't look like a guy last night in the TGL Championship who's ready to play meaningful golf any time soon (or ever again).

Wild Allows Game’s Last Five Goals in 6-3 Loss in Tampa

The Gus Bus may be parked in the bus garage come playoff time.

Filip Gustavsson, benched by Sweden at The Olympics and so-so lately, allowed the oopsiest of all oopsies to break a tie late in regulation in a 6-3 loss in Tampa. Gus wasn’t the only one at fault, as the Wild blew a pair of two-goal leads and seemed fine to not attempt to score again after the midway point of the second period.

The Wild, which got Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek back last night, has 10 games left, and at this point neither Gustavsson or Jesper Wallstedt have shown enough lately to be “the guy”. I assume the Wild will start the playoffs with “two guys” and hope one of them gets hot over the next few weeks.

It’ll be tough for Minnesota to play with much urgency or intensity in the next three weeks, which is the problem with having essentially been locked in as the No. 3 seed for the last couple months. But they can’t afford to play 30 minutes of hockey like they did tonight.

Minnesota visits the Panthers on Thursday. Florida has had a down season after two straight Cups, but the Wild has had little luck against last- and next-to-last place teams over the last few weeks.
