Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 4.1.26

The Wild will have had four days off before they host last-place Vancouver on Thursday. Dallas has lost two straight. Still unlikely the Wild will catch Dallas, but they’re just six points back with eight to play and a game in hand.

GMBB and Baylor tonight at the College Basketball Crown in Vegas. The eight-team tournament is all about the cash prize. The Gophers - players, not athletic department - are guaranteed $50,000 if they defeat Baylor. Another win, and they are guaranteed $100,000. If they can win the tournament, they receive $300,000.

Bobby Durkin, the team’s second-best player this year, announced he’ll be back next year (can always change). So will point guard Isaac Asuma.

Wolves Rip Mavs in Edwards’, Dosunmu’s Returns

It was never close as the Wolves blew out Dallas 124-94 on the road Monday, as Anthony Edwards returned to the lineup along with Ayo Dosunmu. Edwards didn’t start because he was on the *hitter, scored 17 points off the bench, but it was all about Dosunmu. The trade-deadline acquisition had a triple double with 18 points, 15 rebounds and an eye-popping 12 assists.

Naz Reid suddenly may not be the best sixth man on his own team.

The Wolves have seven games left, and they begin a stretch of five straight against Eastern Conference teams tomorrow in Detroit. The Pistons whipped the Wolves here last week.

Minnesota and Houston are tied for fifth. Fourth is not out of the question. It’ll be either the Lakers or the Nuggets in round one.

Punchless Twins Lose in KC

That’s a single run in three of the Twins’ first four games, after losing 3-1 in Kansas City on Monday in the Royals’ home opener.

Matt Walner provided the one run with a solo homeras the Twins wasted a good effort by Simeon Woods Richardson.

Joe Ryan toes the rubber tonight in KC begging for some run support.
