The U.S. Men’s National Team beat Costa Rica in penalty kicks at U.S. Bank Stadium yesterday in the Gold Cup, thanks to three sick saves from Matt Freese. The Americans advance to play Guatemala, which earlier eliminated Canada.

Wolves Re-Sign Reid, Randle

The Wolves kept Naz Reid and Julius Randle over the weekend, but they’re all but certain to lose Nickeil Alexander-Walker to free agency.

Both Reid and Randle opted out of their contracts but immediately signed new ones. Reid signed for five years at $125 million, and Randle for three years at $100 million. Randle third year is a player option.

Reid had a subpar year after winning Sixth Man of the Year, and Randle stunk in the conference finals. But so did everyone.

The Wolves declined team options on Josh Minott and Luka Garza, although the latter could wind up back with the team on a minimum contract.

Lynx Crush Sun

The Lynx embarrassed Connecticut yesterday, rolling to a 102-63 win ahead of Tuesday’s Commissioner’s Cup final against Indiana, which doesn’t count in the standings.

Minnesota improved to 14-2 and 8-0 at home while sending the Sun to its ninth straight loss. It was the Lynx’s third-biggest win margin in team history.

This one was over in the second quarter, when the Lynx reeled off 21 straight points to start the frame. Connecticut took eight minutes to record its first field goal in the stanza.

Napheesa Collier scored 23 points and Kayla McBride added 20 as the Lynx shot 51 perent from the field while holding the Sun to 35 percent.

Twins Lose Back-to-Back Games

Following a modest three-game winning streak, the Twins dropped the final two games of a three-game set with Detroit.

Last night, eight of the Twins’ first nine batters struck out against Tarik Skubal in a 3-0 loss, Detroit’s first home Sunday night baseball game in nearly two decades.

The Twins are in good company struggling against Skubal, who has won 10 straight decisions. They managed just a Ty France single.

Minnesota is off today before heading to Miami to take on the Marlins, who have won seven straight. The Twins will get Royce Lewis back on Tuesday.

Wild Takes Swede in Round Two, Trades Chisholm to Caps

The Wild took defenseman Theodor Hallquisth with the 52nd overall pick in the NHL Draft Saturday, one of five day two picks.

Minnesota also traded defenseman Declan Chisholm to the Caps for blueliener Chase Priske. Two draft picks were also included in that deal. Bottom line? Chisholm was a waiver pickup who wound up doing very well in Iron Range Red, but the Wild were unwilling to pay the price he the restricted free agent was going to command.

Now all eyes turn on July 1, but many players are already off the market, including Sam Bennett, who re-signed with the Panthers. We’ll also watch Marco Rossi - could a team sign the restricted free agent to an offer sheet, forcing the Wild’s hand?
