Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 8.20.25
Justin Jefferson is back at Vikings practice, 13 days before the Monday night regular season opener against the Bears.
Daniel Jones, who never played for the Vikings last season, could land them a fourth-round pick based on playing time after he beat out Anthony Richardson for the Colts’ QB1 job.

Liberty Finally Solve Lynx
Turns out the hardest thing in sports is to beat the same team three times in nine days.
The defending WNBA champion New York Liberty finally beat the Minnesota Lynx this regular season, starting fast in an 85-75 win over Minnesota. The Lynx, still playing without Napheesa Collier, never quite looked comfortable in Brooklyn.
Courtney Williams was the only Lynx starter in double figures with 17 points. Her point guard counterpart, Sabrina Ionescu, also had 17 points but added a whopping 11 assists.
Minnesota is still up six on Atlanta and 6.5 on the Liberty with only 10 games left. The Lynx visits Atlanta on Thursday with a chance to essentially end the Dream’s regular season hopes.
Ryan a Dud in Loss to Athletics
Joe Ryan was due for a clunker. The Twins’ ace lasted just four innings, allowing five runs in the Twins’ 6-3 loss to the A’s last night at Target Field.
Ryan didn’t get a lot of help. Kody Clemens was unable to catch a throw from Royce Lewis, leading to three unearned runs.
The Twins got home runs from Ryan Jeffers and Brooks Lee, but not much else.
The teams meet again tonight in the middle of a three-game set.
Loons Losing Two in Transfer?
If you think you’ve got MLS figured out, keep figuring.
These teams don’t trade within the MLS, they ship players to and from Europe for exorbitant amounts of money.
And therein lies the rub, says the Pioneer Press’ Andy Greder. The Loons are near the top of the Western Conference, but still a small market team. They could be looking at upwards of $16 million for selling regulars Joaquin Pereyra and Tani Oluwaseyi.
The Loons have fine, cheaper players lined up of course, but it’s hard to replace Pereyra and Oluwaseyi immediately.
