Without Collier, Lynx Rally Past Storm
Life without Napheesa Collier began in a positive fashion, as the Lynx rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit late last night to win at Seattle, 91-87.
Courtney Williams led the way with 20 points, and Kayla McBride scored 14 including 9-of-9 free throws and 6-of-6 in the final minute. DiJonai Carrington, acquired in a trade earlier this week, had a promising Lynx debut, recording 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists in just 18 minutes.
Collier is expected to miss at least two weeks due to an ankle sprain.
Minnesota has won seven of eight, is 25-5 overall and hosts Washington on Friday. They’re 5.5 games up on New York for first in the WNBA with three straight games against the Liberty coming up.
Twins Best Paddack, Tigers
Chris Paddack marveled publicly at how good the Tigers facilities were after the Twins traded him to Detroit last week, a not so subtle dig at the Twins.
The Twins got their first look post-trade at Paddack last night, and beat him 6-3 in the middle game of a three-game set in Detroit. Minnesota toughed up Paddack for three in the first inning (a very familiar Paddack start), including Luke Keaschall’s first career big league homer. You’ll remember Keaschall had a nearly unmatched seven-game start to his career before breaking his arm in April. He hit a homer last night in his first at-bat back.
Zebby Matthews continues to make a strong push for a rotation spot next year, striking out six and allowing just one run in five innings against the first-place Tigers.
The Twins had still not set on a starter at press time for today’s 12 p.m. matinee against Jack Flaherty.
