Anthony Edwards to Miss Two Months
The Wolves finally lost, but they suffered a bigger loss just a day later.
Monday, the Cavs beat the Wolves 127-125 in an affair the NBA admitted there were two incorrect calls against Minnesota late in the game. At dinnertime Tuesday, Wolves fans found out that Anthony Edwards will miss two months after undergoing knee surgery.
It’s a devastating loss, obviously, of a top five player in the NBA who was off to a terrific start. Ant had 47 points in the Cavs loss, yet somehow didn’t get the ball on the last two possessions of a two-point loss. But Edwards, who missed playoff games due to injury last season, hasn’t looked 100 percent healthy. The Wolves continued to play him in blowouts, and he probably played a bit too much in the pre-season too.
The West is hot to start off the season. MInnesota’s 3-1 record is good for just sixth in the West. What’s a realistic expectation for the next two months, given this team should be a championship contender? Can they play .600 basketball with what’s still a pretty good lineup. Can Jaden McDaniels and Ayo Dosunmo consistently perform?
We’ll start to find out tonight when the Wolves host Golden State.
Kaprizov, Hughes Lead Wild to Third Straight Win
Wild fans will welcome back the top team in the Western Conference on Thursday.
Minnesota wrapped up a 3-1-1 road trip with a 3-1 win at Utah last night behind the usual suspects, namely Kirill Kaprizov and Quinn Hughes.
Kaprizov had his league-leading 14th goal. Only two players in NHL history have recorded more goals in October - one guy named Lemieux, and wouldn’t it be like The Thrill to net a hat trick Thursday against the Islanders to score the most ever in October.
His linemate Max Shabanov, who scored four goals all of last season with the Islanders, scored his fourth last night. Quinn Hughes had two assists; he’s got 18 points in 14 games.
Jesper Wallstedt made 26 saves to improve to 8-2-2 with a goals against average under 2.00.
It’s just a one-gamer at home for the Wild on Thursday, who then head East for two more games, bringing them to seven road games out of eight played. Imagine when this team starts getting some home cooking. Or suffers another big injury.
