The first Vikings injury report of the week is due out today. As far as we know, Kyler Murray is still in concussion protocol. It has to be Carson Wentz and not J.J. McCarthy Sunday in Chicago.

There are many problems with college sports, but we need to stop creating solutions to ones that don’t exist. A group of senators are trying to put a limit on non U.S. citizens in college sports. That’ll obviously affect men’s and women’s hockey. Also it seems like every college punter is now an Aussie.

Wild Extends Hynes on Eve of Camp

The Wild welcomes players to training camp today and hit the ice tomorrow. The first pre-season game is already on Saturday, at the GAC against the Blackhawks. With the new 84-game season, training camp is drastically shortened, as is the list of players invited to camp. There are just four exhibition games. Not that regulars played a ton of pre-season games, but it’ll be interesting to see if there are more injuries/less intensity in games in October.

John Hynes signed a multi-year contract extension yesterday. He’s Bill Guerin’s guy, for sure. His whole staff returns, too. I’m a little surprised he got this already because well, it’s time to get over the hump. Of course that’ll be a lot easier if GMBG gets Quinn Hughes signed long term.

The Wild opens the regular season Oct. 1 in Nashville.

Yankees Whip Twins; Culpepper Hurt

At least the Yankees can’t beat the Twins in October.

New York, which clinched a playoff spot in a win on Monday, dispatched of the Twins 8-1 last night on a beautiful night at Target Field.

Good news and bad news on a few of the Twins’ biggest prospects. Emmanuel Rodriguez, who homered in his first big league at bat over the weekend, had two hits last night and just missed a monster home run when it was ruled to have gone foul (Derek Shelton got ejected for arguing the call, which was correct). But Kaelen Culpepper left with a hamstring injury. Walker Jenkins is 0 for his last 16. Byron Buxton’s hip surgery is set for later this week.

The Twins are essentially eliminated. Rubber match at Target Field a bit after noon today.
