Some Friday quick hits because the week is hectic.

In the midst of a week full of turmoil in the Wild organization, the Wild’s young guns stepped up big time in a 3-2 shootout win over Calgary at The X last night. Matt Boldy scored his seventh goal in eight games since John Hynes took over, and added the shootout winner. Brock Faber played a career-high 30:08 with Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin out of the lineup, while Filip Gustavsson made 38 saves. Per a report in The Athletic, Wild GM Bill Guerin was under investigation for verbal abuse of a hockey operations staff member. A day earlier, his right hand man and salary cap guru Chris O’Hearn was fired after a separate human resources investigation that included outside legal counsel.

The Wolves kept pace with the Celtics for the best record in the entire NBA, as they rebounded from a loss to the Pelicans with a 119-101 win at Dallas last night. Minnesota trailed by a point at the half, but got a career-high seven 3-pointers and 27 points from Naz Reid, plus 21 points and 17 rebounds from Karl-Anthony Towns. Imagine a world in which the Wolves win by 18 and Anthony Edwards doesn’t reach double figures, but that happened. ANT did have 11 assists. The Wolves host the Pacers on Saturday. Only the Celtics (none) have fewer home losses than the Wolves.

It’ll be Nick Mullens under center - to start the game at least - Saturday when the Vikings visit the Bengals in the first game of an NFL Saturday tripleheader. Jaren Hall will back up, with Josh Dobbs being demoted to the emergency third QB. Both teams have identical 7-6 records. Must win game for the Vikings - they all are - if they’re to catch the Lions for first place in the division and a home playoff game. No other NFL team has more road wins than the Vikings (five).

The Gopher men continue beating up on non conference foes, blowing out IUPUI 101-65 on Tuesday. They’re 8-3 and are off until taking on Ball State at The Barn next Thursday. The women won their seven straight to move to 10-1 on Wednesday, edging Grambling State 96-94. They’re also off until facing Lindenwood next Thursday.
