The Queen Misses Iowa History By Two Days!

If the Queen had lived just two more days she would have seen Iowa State University (ISU) beat Iowa in their 69th meeting of the Cy-Hawk Rivalry. This was an historic game, for one, the last time Iowa had to hand over the trophy to ISU was 2014. Just so you have a sense of how long ago 2014 was, since that time, we have seen 19 Marvel movies, Tom Brady win 4 more rings, JLo win 2 more rings, and three different presidents sit in the office. So it's been a minute since the Hawkeyes have had to swallow a loss to the Cyclones.

What else made this game historic you may ask…. today was the first time Iowa has had a turnover against Iowa State since 2015. Not only did the Hawkeyes have their first turnover to the Cyclones in 7 years, but they had three turnovers! Again some historic context as to how long it has been, 2015 is when we all watched Jon Snow die. Bruh, do I miss the days when Game of Thrones was good, and we were all waiting for that next season. House Stark! But I digress, back to football.

In week 2, the Hawkeye offense showed a repeat of the same issues we all cringed at last week. Do I think Hellen Keller would make a better QB than Petras like so many Instagram commenters suggest? Who’s to say? While Petras does have the ability to see, maybe Keller had some superior sense of hearing that would have made her a more successful QB. Who am I to put a woman down?

At post-conference, Ferentz did not say definitively that Petras will start the next game. Rather, he said that Petras does not have enough help around him to be evaluated. Maybe partly true, but I am thinking Petras deserves the shade being thrown at him right now. Bruuuuuuce is a weapon, but only had one reception the whole game?! Ferentz can blame injuries for the poorly performing offense all he wants, but the truth is the best WR on the team isn’t even being utilized. Petras completed 12/26 passes, with almost every pitch to The Offensive Boss completely out of reach.

It's time to say what I know everyone is already thinking, the goatee has got to go. I am sorry, Petras, but it is not bringing the power we thought. Maybe that’s what is slowing you down? Time to cut the facial hair before you get cut from your starting spot. Bring back the baby face and maybe you can bring back some of that old-school Petras magic.

For the second week in a row, Iowa has only been able to put up 7 points on the board. It's hard to win games if you don’t move the football and score points. The third reason this game was so historical, Iowa set a Big Ten record for the least amount of points scored in the first two weeks of the season.
