Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 6.10.26

Apologies to the Hurricanes and Golden Knights on behalf of all of Canada and America for thinking this series would suck. It’s a best-of-three, now.

Wild re-signs Michael McCarron for six years at a decent AAV ($3.3 million). However, he’s 31 years old and six years is a long time for a guy who plays the kind of game he plays. But as I like to say, you can never have enough bottom six forwards.

Olivia was Miles Better than No. 1 Pick in Latest Lynx Win

Olivia Miles was picked second in the draft this year, but she outdueled both of the No. 1 picks from the last two years.

The rookie, fresh off Western Conference Player of the Week honors, looks more like an MVP candidate than a Rookie of Year candidate. She scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds with six assists in the Lynx’ latest blowout win, 100-76, over Dallas last night at Target Center.

The player picked before Miles? Azzi Fudd had just six points and missed 10 shots. Paige Bueckers, the hometown kid picked first overall in 2025, did lead the Wings with 23 points.

Minnesota has won eight straight and is 10-2. They’re going to get their stiffest test - second-place Las Vegas - on Saturday in Nevada. The Aces have won four straight. The Lynx, meanwhile, is 5-0 on the road.

The Lynx is the only team in the WNBA this season to shoot 70 percent in a half - and they’ve done it twice.

This team may be historically good, and could bring the Twin Cities its first major title since the Lynx won it in 2017. That marked the team’s fourth championship in eight years.

You have to think some big name free agents who came to town to visit and then spurned the Lynx may be wishing they’d made a different decision…

Tigers Maul Reeling Twins

The Twins lost for the fifth time in six games and for the 31st time in 50, 10-4, in Detroit last night.

It was 8-4 in the eighth with who else but Royce Lewis at the plate and the bases loaded, but he couldn’t manage a hit. Lewis did, however, manage two hits in the game for the second time this season and the first since April 8.

Taj Bradley got roughed up for five runs in less than five innings. He’s lasted less than five in each of his last three starts, all Twins losses.

Mike Paredes, with two career relief appearances, starts tonight.

Something historically happening with this team, too…
