Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 6.20.25

The Lynx, the WNBA’s lone one-loss team, hosts L.A. on Saturday.

P.J. Fleck has offered a scholarship to a 14-year-old from Eden Prairie who has yet to play a down in high school football.

It’s only Friday morning, but seeing Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in the top 5 at The Travelers is tantalizing for weekend TV.

Pacers blow out Thunder, setting up a Game 7 in Oklahoma City on Sunday (again, with the two days off between games).

Twins Bats Break Out as Losing Streak Ends

The Twins earned a slump-busting 12-5 win over the Reds in a series finale matinee yesterday, just hours after a rain-shortened loss.

Heroes abound offensively, starting with Byron Buxton. His two homers raised his average to .280; he’s sure starting to look like the Buck of old. Carlos Correa had three hits. Kody Clemens, who did not have the stats of a major league player at the time of his recall, continues to earn his keep and hit his seventh home run yesterday.

Chris Paddack wasn’t great - four runs in five innings - but he didn’t need to be. He improved to 3-6.

The Twins are back to 37-37, amongst a myriad of teams who will likely go down to the final week of the season in the wild card race. No one’s catching Detroit (10-game lead)  in the Central.

It’ll be a steamy border battle at Target Field this weekend, with heat indices expected to top 105 both Saturday and Sunday.

Wild Prep for Draft, Free Agency

A warning to Wild fans who see the clearing of the Parise and Suter contracts as a sure thing Bill Guerin is days away from a spending spree: it takes two to tango.

The NHL Draft is next week, and some trades are happening ahead of that, including the Stars getting a third and a fourth-round pick from Seattle for Mason Marchment.

It appears more likely by the day that Marco Rossi will be traded; the sides haven’t talked in weeks. Guerin is going to need to get an NHL player in return.

And then the page turns to free agency. My gut tells me Sam Bennett stays in Florida. Matt Duchene re-signed in Dallas. Could the Wild bring back Mikael Granlund, Luke Kunin or Nick Bjugstad?
