Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 8.13.25

Who’s the dummy who made a 7 a.m. cavity filling appointment the day after vacation?

Literally gasped when I belatedly saw the video of NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch fall out of his car

Wild sets “Golf Night” for April 14 at “The Casino”. Let’s just hope the team isn’t golfing a couple days later.

Worst case scenario came true, Vikings WR Rondale Moore will miss his second straight full season after suffering a knee injury in the first pre-season game.

Yankees Continue Dominance over Twins

Luke Keaschall was 26 months old when the Twins last won a playoff game against the Yankees. Outside of Byron Buxton, no one’s around who’s suffered through two decades of Yankees horrors.

But it all still continues, without fail. The Yankees are now 125-44 in the last 169 games (regular and post-season) against the Twins, after taking back-to-back games by the score of 6-2 and 9-1. Last night, the Twins didn’t get a hit after Austin Martin’s leadoff single. Per SportRadar, it is the first time since 1970 the Twins got a leadoff hit and not a single hit after. The Yankees have won nine in a row against the Twins, including seven at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees, mind you, were 21-31 in mid-June and closing in on being out of the playoff race. But as has happened way too often if you’re a Twins fan, the Yankees have fattened up on Minnesota.

Monday, in my teen’s first trip to Yankee Stadium (home of the $90 T-shirt), New York hit four homers and the Twins could barely touch Will Warren.

The Twins have to work SO hard to score, with such a small margin for error with a young, inexperienced pitching staff (11 walks issued last night).

Last night was similar. The Twins loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning against Carlos Rodon. They did score one run, but failed to get a hit - the Twins entered the game hitting an MLB-worst .177 with the bases loaded. The Twns have way too many quick at bats - Rodon retired the next 17 batters after the first three reached.

Then Aaron Judge hit a moonshot as the second batter of the bottom of the first off Travis Adams, a reliever pressed into starting duty on a “bullpen game.” After Adams walked two hitters near the bottom of the Yankee lineup, No. 9 hitter Anthony Volpe, who Yankee fans would be banished to Triple-A, hit a three-run home run into a shallow right center field bullpen. Giancarlo Stanton later added his second homer in as many nights. Stanton had four hits last night.

Joe Ryan against Cam Schlittler tonight in the series finale. The Yankees still come to Target Field for three games next month.
