Stanzel’s Sports Takeout — BREAKING NEWS: 9.26.25

Throwbacks for the Wolves and Wild this year. The Wolves will wear the black tree-trimmed jerseys a lot more often than the Wild’s original white.

Going to be a muddy track early in the day at Bethplage Black for the Ryder Cup after a couple days of rain. Forecast is great for the weekend. Can we get a Scheffler/Rory singles match Sunday? Europe dominated foursomes in Rome two years ago, the U.S. can’t fall down 3-1 again Friday morning.

Lynx at Mercury tonight for a pivotal Game 3.

Will this be the last we see of Rocco Baldelli in the Twins’ dugout? Far from all his fault, but I can see him being the fall guy. Although, the Pohlads are unlikely to want to pay two managers at the same time. Byron Buxton earned an extra $500K yesterday with his 533rd plate appearance. It’s a shame to waste that season (33 home runs) by him. Luke Keaschall may be headed for off-season thumb surgery; would be his third serious injury in an arm/hand in two seasons.

Wild blew a 2-0 lead in a 5-2 loss to Dallas at home last nighti in pre-season game No. 3. Concerning statement from Craig Leipold who doesn’t want to talk at all about Kirill Kaprizov…

Vikings Face Aaron Rodgers, Steelers in Dublin

Can Isaiah Rodgers intercept Aaron Rodgers? One of many storylines as the Vikings and Steelers kick off in Dublin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Jordan Addison returns after his three-game suspension related to a drunken driving charge. He and Carson Wentz have reportedly looked good in practice.

Andrew Van Ginkel hasn’t practiced this week with a neck injury. He missed time earlier this season with a concussion. They’re trying to limit his time in practice in hopes of getting him into games.

Gophers Host Rutgers and Kaliakmanis

Zebby Matthews had allowed 14 runs in his last two starts before yielding just one in seven innings last night in a win at Texas to start the penultimate series of the season. He struck out six, didn’t walk anyone and needed only 90 pitches.

Rutgers QB Athan Kaliakmanis’ dad has opened his mouth (via his fingers) and really made this Scarlet Knights/Gophers game interesting. Kaliakmanis didn’t show much as Gophers QB or was underutilized, depending on who you talk to. P.J. Fleck recruited graduate senior Max Brosmer, and that guy’s in the NFL now so Fleck knew what he was doing.

The Gophers are 4.5 point favorites in the 11 a.m. game. At least the Gophers’ next three games will all be evening games, starting next Saturday at Ohio State.

Loons at Colorado on Saturday

The Loons could still finish anywhere from first through fourth in the West with three games left, albeit first is a longshot.

Saturday’s game against Colorado means a lot to the Rapids too. Colorado is currently in eighth - the No. 8 and No. 9 teams play a one-game playoff.
