Twins Drop Third Straight Series
No one’s going to run away with the AL Wild Card, but the Twins have no shot if they don’t start winning some series.
Minnesota wasted a Friday win in Milwaukee, dropping a pair of 4-3 decisions to close the series. The Twins have dropped three straight series, including two since the trade deadline.
The Twins couldn’t hold a 3-1 lead on Saturday, wasting a good start by Taj Bradley. Jeff Hoffman, acquired at the deadline, took the loss.
Yesterday, the Twins needed five relievers to piece together the final five innings, and the dreaded ghost runner got them in the 10th. That wasted homers by Kody Clemens (20th) and Brooks Lee (17th).
So the Twins, who have 43 games left, begin the week 1.5 games back of the wild card. Five of the top six teams in that race lost Sunday, including the Twins.
Minnesota returns home to face Baltimore in a crucial series. The O’s are just a half game back of the Twins.
McBride Hits WNBA-Record 10 3-Pointers in Lynx Win
Cheryl Reeve doesn’t often criticize her team publicly. Of course, there’s rarely a need.
But the Lynx took her to heart after Thursday’s loss at L.A., in which she called them “terrible”. Minnesota rebounded with two wins in 72 hours - coming home to beat now third-place Vegas 98-87 and then a historic 103-90 win over Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings yesterday.
Kayla McBride set a WNBA record with 10 3-pointers against Dallas yesterday at Target Center. She finished with a career-high 43 points - more than double her 17.6 ppg average this season.
Olivia Miles added 20 points and 11 assists as the Lynx won for the 12th time in 13 games.
The Lynx has 10 games left in the regular season - there’s still the FIBA World Cup break coming soon - but they’re now up three games on Golden State for second. Minnesota and Golden State still have two head-to-head matchups left.
Minnesota visits Portland on Wednesday
If the season ended today, the Lynx would play Dallas in round one of the playoffs.
Loons Struggling in Leagues Cup
